Today I present a film from Alviso (California) in the United States of America. Alviso is a small neighbourhood of the City of San José and lies in the South San Francisco Bay, only a few miles away from what is called Silicon Valley with all its technology firms. Alviso once used to be an important trading port for the South Bay, but its significance has long diminished and its historic town centre has since fallen into disrepair. An active railway mainline connecting the city of San José with Fremont across the bay runs through Alviso. The embankment goes straight through the mudflats and salt evaporation ponds that constitute much of the southern end of the San Francisco Bay. The line is mostly used by Amtrak passenger trains, with only the occasional freight train (though none were seen on the day of filming). This film shows some of Amtrak “Capitol Corridor” trains, which run between San José and Sacramento/Auburn in north-eastern California. Enjoy! Recorded on 10 March 2018
